Oh 00s fashion. It was bad, wasn’t it? Me and my friends always laugh about wearing scarves as belts and tops with WAY too much glitter. What were we thinking?! I really like your substack, it makes me giggle but also inspires me. x

Thank you! I just googled out of curiosity and there is a LOT of Jane Norman available secondhand and can confirm it is vile.

I LOVED everything about this post - HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY. I could write a thesis about Kookaï, Morgan and nineties PTSD but you put it perfectly. X

Thank you - for this and all the support in general! Also well done for honouring Kookai's two-dots-on-the-i, very respectful.

I love your newsletter and if you do paywall it I’ll think* about stumping up (which is more meaningful I think)…am hoping you get that Zoolander reference. Anyway I just thought I’d also let you know that I am on training run no 4 on Strava for the Great North Run for my new work Family Rights Group, strong armed by new colleagues. This will be followed by…dun dun dahhhh….the London Marathon which I only bloody managed to get into through the ballot following a crazy moment where I thought I was 23 again and applied while weeping at the telly in April. I’ve already got a friend making me a cape for the big day so I’m definitely sorted. All in all how about this…you big up me and my efforts for my various good causes when the time comes and in return I’ll subscribe! Sounds like a deal, right?

Wow, that's exciting! Amazing to get a ballot place. The cape is all you need. And I will definitely big you up!

Happy first birthday to KIUF! I came across your newsletter in my own early days on being on Substack and have always enjoyed seeing your posts appear in my inbox.

I couldn’t afford much from some of those shops like Morgan and Kookai, but I would often feel the same way as you describe when I did go in.

On a Kookai and 90s related culture crossover point, one of the characters, Donna Bell (real name Sally McQuillan) was manager at the shop for a while in Nottingham. Wey aye!

Thank you! Very impressive niche 90s/Kookai knowledge too. Also good point about not being to afford to shop in those places either, they were weirdly expensive despite being just as full of synthetic tat as cheaper (and slightly more inclusive) places like New Look. Being able to have KOOKAI stamped across your tits was a status symbol in many ways.

Oops I realised that I missed off Byker Grove in my excitement to write that comment 🙄

Haha, I vividly remember those! I did the same but with the River Island carrier bags - not as high quality but it had a big tabby cat on it (and I think loads of Victorian children?! Odd design concept in hindsight).
