A bit more about Keep It Up Fatty!

Here’s me ruining a great photo by being on my phone, which is a fairly typical state of affairs.

I’m Isabel and I am the brains and bum behind Keep It Up Fatty! I live in south east London, I have two kids, one cat and I’m a freelance journalist and “consultant”.

I started my career more than 20 years ago in celebrity gossip mags and wrote lots of things I’m not very proud of (I mean, I sometimes wrote the captions for heat’s infamous Circle of Shame…) and some that were pretty good. My post about this era is actually my most read to date…

After all that, I worked in start-ups for a while and got into brand copywriting alongside journalism. But I missed writing about things I really care about (“yourself?” Yes!) so, after procrastinating for the best part of a year, I finally launched Keep It Up Fatty! in summer 2023. It’s a newsletter that’s spawned out of me getting addicted to exercise after almost four decades of only breaking a sweat when the barman called last orders. If you’re wondering about the name, it’s all explained here…

Since 2020, I’ve run four half marathons, more than 80 parkruns and I even conquered London Marathon in April 2024. Yes, it was amazing. No, I’m not sure I would do it again.

This body image business is complicated and throughout my adult life I’ve veered wildly between being caught up in diet culture and celebrating body positivity. I’ll probably touch on some of this here, while trying my best to inspire and entertain.
