I have just finished a 14 mile run that’s should have been 21 . But my injured piriformis had other ideas. London Marathon incoming ( I have run up to 18miles ) . Physio tomorrow and back out Tuesday . I am off to Sicily to do the Etna parkrun in September, but of mine and the OH 60th birthday celebrations . There is a lovely 10 mile run along Brighton and Hove seafront in June .Book it , it will be good.

When I hate running I don’t run and I eat crisps but this could just be me.

My advice would be not to chase the miles, always better to be undertrained than overtrained and tired on the start line ❤️

A "runk" - that should be a word describing a particular place in hell for runners (who aren't motivated to run at the moment). I've been there, and it's not a pretty place. Sometimes the runk has nothing to do with the running, it just has to do with the busyness of life. Fortunately the runks do pass. I love reading about your running adventures; thank you for sharing them!

I can relate to this, I’m doing the coastal half next weekend. I keep telling myself it’s just a training run for Hackney in May…..

Good luck for Sunday!

Plan some side quests- take a photo every km with a different new friend and a selfie at each landmark (but make sure your face is almost completely covering it!)

And/ or tag along with a pacing group that is slower than your usual pace. That will give you plenty of chance to chat and you can help each other through.

Don’t set off at your PB pace and kid yourself you can wing it. I’ve done that so you don’t have to!

Ooh yes, these are excellent strategies and would make it fun too.

And yes I've definitely made that mistake before too... during the Big Half 2023, when it was horrendously hot, I basically ran my fastest ever 10K followed by my slowest ever 10K!

Try a 60 min run this weekend. It’s long enough to boost your confidence (hopefully) but short enough to recover from. And consider a run/walk strategy for the half. Even if it’s walk 1 min every mile. Do it from the start not just once you get tired.

Good idea. In fact I might do a parkrun sandwich this weekend!
